Billboard Top 200 / Country Album Chart News (Chart issue week of November 4, 2017)

The Billboard 200 chart measures multi-metric album consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

Pink's 'Beautiful Trauma' Bows at No. 1 on Billboard 200 With 2017's Biggest Debut for a Woman
As expected, P!nk claimed her second No.1 album on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart (BB200) with BEAUTIFUL TRAUMA, which started atop the list with 2017's largest week for an album by a woman and the fourth-biggest week among all acts. It launches with a larger-than-expected 408,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Oct. 19, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 384,196 were in traditional album sales -- the best sales week of the year among all acts.
Beautiful Trauma is the pop singer-songwriter's second No. 1 album, following 2012's THE TRUTH ABOUT LOVE (her last solo studio effort), which started atop the list with 280,000 copies sold (before the chart transitioned to a consumption-ranked list in late 2014). In total, Beautiful is P!nk's seventh top 10 effort.
Nielsen Music does not break out specifically how much of any album's sales are generated by concert ticket/album bundle offers. However, CD sales from ticket bundles are categorized as Internet sales by the company, and Beautiful Trauma's Internet sales figure was 249,000. So, one can assume most of that number was generated from the ticket bundle -- minus a smallish amount (perhaps in the low five-figures) for traditional sales from Amazon and other web-based retailers.

Billboard Top Country Albums (Chart issue week of November 4, 2017)
Top Country Albums now ranks the most popular country albums of the week, as compiled by Nielsen Music, based on multi-metric consumption (blending traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA)).
10 digital track sales from an album = 1 track equivalent album (TEA) “sale”
1,500 on demand song streams from an album to one streaming equivalent album (SEA) “sale”.
Nielsen Music compiles the sales and streaming data. Billboard continues to publish pure album sales charts (subscription to billboard biz ), exclusively comprising Nielsen’s sales data.

Epic's Jessie James Decker debuted and achieved her first No.1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart (dated Nov. 4), with SOUTHERN GIRL CITY LIGHTS. The album sold 17,727 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen Soundscan.

It earned 21,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Oct. 19, and made a debut at No.18 on the Billboard 200 list. Both totals marked career bests.

Southern Girl City Lights boasts 12 new tracks from the powerhouse artist. The first single and title track “Southern Girl City Lights” is closing in on a half-a-million Spotify streams. Meanwhile, the record includes the empowering and energetic “Pretty Girl,” unshakable breakup anthem “Almost Over You” [feat. Randy Houser], and lush and lively “All Filled Up.

CHART HISTORY:
SOUTHERN GIRL CITY LIGHTS is Decker’s fifth Top Country Albums appearance, although her first with an LP.

GOLD (Epic), her third EP, matched her previous highest arrival on Top Country Albums (chart dated March 11, 2017) when the five-song set started at No.5 (#33 Billboard 200); with 15,000 equivalent album units (12,371 in pure sales).

The 5 track EP BLACKBIRD SESSIONS (Epic Records; Amazon UK - UK iTunes - Amazon.com) made a debut at #33 (#175 Billboard 200) selling 4,024 copies (the weeks 48th best US seller; #11 best country seller).

THIS CHRISTMAS debuted at No.16 (No.178 BB200, released Dec 4, 2015; 5,600 copies sold)

Her 2012 first charted title and debut EP, COMIN’ HOME (released April 18, 2014) debuted (and peaked) at No.5 (No.28 BB200; 11,144 copies sold).
Under the name Jessie James her 2009 SELF-TITLED debut album featured the GOLD certified lead single “Wanted” released on April 14, 2009 and peaked at No.40 on the Billboard Hot 100. The second single "I Look So Good (Without You)" was released on August 25, 2009, and peaked at No. 138 on the Billboard Hot Digital Songs chart. The album was released on Aug 11, 2009 by Mercury Records. The album charted on the Billboard 200 at #23 on its debut week, selling about 18,575 copies.

Previous week’s No.1 Kane Brown with his SELF-TITLED album fell 1-2 (#5-20 Billboard 200) selling 8,195 copies (down 68%; 46-week total 232,400)
Former No.1 Thomas Rhett with LIFE CHANGES (Valory/Big Machine Label Group) slipped 2-3 (#22-28 Billboard 200) selling 5,946 copies (down 13%; 6-week total 149,300).

Carly Pearce with EVERY LITTLE THING (Big Machine | BMLG) made a debut at No.4 (#32 Billboard 200; 15,000 units) selling 9,692 copies in pure sales.

Pearce’s busbee-produced debut features her first single/title cut, plus songs including “If My Name Was Whiskey,” “Color,” “Dare Ya” and “Everybody’s Gonna Talk.” She wrote eight of the 13 tracks; other writers include Hillary Lindsey, Shane McAnally and Natalie Hemby.

The 13-track offering features eight songs that Carly co-wrote, including her current single, “Every Little Thing,” which is No.6 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.
I wrote this song from a very personal place of a heartbreak that I experienced and never really thought anybody was going to hear it,” said Carly to Nash Country Daily. “I certainly didn’t think that it was going to be something that would be my debut into the country genre. I thought that maybe my fans would have to buy into me a little bit to understand the artistic side of this song. I joke and say I’ve put out a lot of songs and been a part of a lot of things, but this song, as soon as it came out, it felt like it had its own wings and it was kind of out of my control.”
Promoting the album Carly >> appeared on NBC-TV's "TODAY" show (Oct 16) with a performance of her current single, "Every Little Thing," as part of the show's "CITI CONCERT SERIES.
She dived in with The Bachelorette (Season 11) for the latest episode of Podcast One’s Off The Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe. They enjoyed a candid chat at Blackbird studio in Nashville, discussing taboo topics and dishing out unfiltered advice with a lot of laughs and of course, wine.

Critical reception for Carly Pearce’s Every Little Thing:
13 Tracks/ Time: 42:36 Amazon UK - UK iTunes - Amazon.com

NPR That's a pleasing template that Pearce and busbee tinker with throughout the album, layering the contributions of studio pros — some of whom, including dobro player Josh Matheny and guitarists Carl Miner and Ilya Toshinskiy, have string band backgrounds — over loose-fitting programmed beats. As a vocalist, Pearce has a Krauss-like ability to find elegant sensuality in emotional suffering, but Pearce's approach to singing isn't nearly as ethereal. "Baby, your ghost still holds me, but I don't wanna sleep with him no more," she moans, with subtle, R&B-style shifts in tonality.

Sounds Like Nashville (Rating: Positive)...Produced by busbee (Keith Urban, Maren Morris), pop undertones match the country vibe throughout the album. No detail is too small to emphasize, between guitar riffs and banjos, each song is unique and stands on its own. Her vocals on the tracks are the real prize, singing in an impressive range, Pearce proves that she really is the whole package....Pearce’s Every Little Thing is strong in girl-power and talent and will not disappoint fans who have already emerged in the masses for this young singer.

Focusonthe615 (Rating: 5/5 STARS)..In short, I think Carly Pearce has the potential to become one of the great, standout female A-list vocalists that you’ll be hearing about for many years to come in country music along the lines of greats like Sara Evans, Faith Hill, Shania Twain, Reba, and Carrie Underwood just to mention a few who have all stood the test of time.  She is certainly one to watch and I strongly recommend buying this album when released.  It is one of the best I have had the pleasure to listen to this year.

Allmusic (Rating: 4 STARS)…Carly Pearce grew up singing country music, heading to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee at the age of 16 so she could sing at Dollywood. Every Little Thing, her 2017 debut album, bears echoes not only of this polished professionalism but also the bluegrass of Pearce's native Kentucky, but it's all wrapped up in a shiny production courtesy of busbee....As appealing as the individual songs are, Every Little Thing works as well as it does because of its expert sequencing. Sliding from the woozy grooves of "Hide the Wine" to the urgent romance of "Careless" with ease, the album takes time for delicate ballads and stops at the precise moment for the stomping blues "Catch Fire." Through it all, Pearce establishes her own identity: her showbiz and country roots are inextricably entangled, a singer with a feel for the past but an eye for the present

Russell Dickerson with his first full-length, YOURS (Triple Tigers/ Sony Music Entertainment), arrived at No.5 on Top Country Albums (#39 Billboard 200; 12,000 units) selling 7,611 copies. It was the 20th best seller this frame and No.9 on the Digital Albums list

It follows the same-named EP, which entered at No.14 on Feb. 6, 2016 (Russell Dickerson 2,700 copies sold). The album’s title-track first single hit the Hot Country Songs top 20 (22-17) and jogged 20-17 on Country Airplay (15.5 million, up 13%).

Dickerson co-wrote all 10 tracks on his debut album, produced by Casey Brown and including the lead single/title cut. The album features tracks from his EP including “Blue Tacoma” and “MGNO,” plus a special “wedding edition” of “Yours.”

Critical reception for Russell Dickerson’s Yours:
12 Tracks/ Time: 41:40 Amazon UK - UK iTunes - Amazon.com

Entertainment-focus (Rating: 4/5 STARS) …With Yours, Dickerson has crafted a solid debut album. At times the album suffers a little bit from being too safe. While it is sonically varied, it would have been nice to hear Dickerson take a few more risks. I expect that’ll come on his second album but for now it’s just a relief that Yours is finally here. Dickerson has all the makings of being a big star and I’m fairly certain this is the just the (very long) start of his journey.

Former No.1 Luke Combs with THIS ONE’S FOR YOU (River House/ Columbia Nashville/Sony Music Nashville) slipped 4-6 (#44-42 Billboard 200) selling 3,980 copies (20-week total 132,100).

Chris Stapleton with TRAVELLER (MERCURY/ UMGN) fell 5-7 (47-44 Billboard 200) selling 5,619 copies (up 6%; 129-week total 2,091,300). Stapleton’s From a Room: Volume 1 (Mercury/Universal Music Group Nashville) fell 7-10 (78-70 BB200) selling 5,619 copies (24-week total 541,400).

Brett Young with self-titled debut (BMLG) fell 6-8 (#62-59 BB200) selling 2,514 copies (36-week total 146,800).

Former No.1 Shania Twain with NOW (Mercury/Universal Music Group Nashville) fell 3-9 (#29-62 Billboard 200) selling 8,045 copies (down 41%; 3-week total 155,912).

Outside the Top 10
Florida Georgia Line with DIG YOUR ROOTS (BMLG) fell 8-11 (82-76 BB200) selling 1,100 copies (60-week total 428,200)

Sam Hunt with MONTEVALLO (MCA Nashville | UMGN) fell 10-13 (#86-92 BB200).

In his sixth frame Dustin Lynch with CURRENT MOOD (Broken Bow/Broken Bow Music Group) fell 12-14 (#91-106 Billboard 200) selling 2,137 copies (down 19%; 6-week total 45,400).

Dolly Parton with I BELIEVE IN YOU (Dolly/RCA Nashville | SMN; Amazon UK - Amazon.com) made a first entry in the top 25 at No.20 (#173 BB200) selling 4,832 copies (Total sales 5,900). It made an initial debut at #37 selling 900 copies.
In their fourth frame Midland with ON THE ROCKS (Big Machine Records) fell 19-24 (#161-189 Billboard 200) selling 2,863 copies (down 10%; 4-week total 28,179).

Outside the Top 25
Travis Meadows with his 11 track album FIRST CIGARETTE (McDowell Road | Blaster; Amazon UK - UK iTunes - Amazon.com) made a debut at No.34 selling 1,100 copies.

Hit songwriter Meadows, with cuts by Eric Church ("Knives Of New Orleans"; "Dark Side"), Dierks Bentley ("Riser") and Jake Owen ("What We Ain't Got", "Cherry On Top"), worked with exec. producer Jay Joyce and producer Jeremy Spillman on an album that examines themes of recovery and survival, and includes lead single “Pray For Jungleland.”
